The film is adapted from the novel series "Love West Lake" by Wang Xufeng, winner of the Mao Dun Literature Award. The story is set against the backdrop of "Willow Waves and Singing Orioles", one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake. It mainly tells the emotional entanglement between two girls and a painter in the Jiangnan Yue Opera Troupe in the 1990s. Chui Tiao (played by Wang Yang), a very talented female student, and Yin Xin (played by Kan Xin), a female actress, have known each other since childhood and grew up together in the opera troupe. The two have very different personalities, but they are like sisters. Chui Tiao is passionate and lives for the stage; Yin Xin seems simple and innocent, but in fact she is a girl who knows how to advance and retreat and is good at making money. They were originally the most important person in each other's eyes, but the world is impermanent and all kinds of disagreements come one after another. In particular, the appearance of Hangzhou painter Gong Yushan (played by Zheng Yunlong) makes the two girls who depend on each other love and kill each other.
