The one-eyed boy Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson) lives with his frail mother. During the day, Kubo makes money by telling the villagers wonderful stories of supernatural powers. As soon as it gets dark, he must return home to take care of his mother. One day, Kubo came home late, and the evil sister (voiced by Rooney Mara) who had taken away one of Kubo's eyes came to Kubo's house and tried to take away his other eye. In the melee, Kubo's mother died, and Kubo, who escaped from death, was forced to leave the village and go into exile. Kubo learned that his father had left behind a piece of armor that could protect Kubo from the evil sister and his father, Luna (voiced by Ralph Fiennes) before his death, so he decided to set out to find it. On the way, Kubo met the amnesiac wizard Beetle (voiced by Matthew McConaughey), and Beetle also joined Kubo's team.
