Best-selling author Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is driving home with his latest work "Misery". On the way, he encountered a terrible snowstorm and his car overturned. Paul's legs were seriously injured. Fortunately, he was rescued in time by Anne Wilkes (Kathy Bates), a nurse who lived alone on the top of a nearby mountain. Anne is Paul's number one fan.
