In 1945, the Second World War was drawing to a close. Berlin, the heart of the Third Reich, had been reduced to ruins under the fierce offensive of the Allies. After a brief exchange of fire, thousands of Soviet soldiers poured into the dilapidated city. The German civilians hiding under the bunkers walked out of the ground obediently under the threat of rifles, and the sins committed by men were transferred to women. Countless women were raped, but no Soviet officer stepped forward to stop it. She (played by Nina Hoss) was one of these humiliated German women. Her husband was far away at the front line, and his life or death was uncertain. She was terrified and helpless and could only endure humiliation again and again. She committed herself to a Soviet officer just to survive in this evil situation... This film is adapted from the diary of a German female journalist of the same name.
