In the winter of 1940, Chinese orphans Chuchu (Guo Keyu) and Luo Xiaoman (Xu Xiaoli) were sent to study at the Ivanov International Children's Home in the suburbs of Moscow. In class, when Chuchu told her about how she witnessed her father being killed by fascist executioners, the teacher and classmates were shocked. Afterwards, she and Luo Xiaoman lived a relatively peaceful life, and later went to different cities for summer camp. The German invasion of Moscow made Chuchu witness death again, and she was captured by the German army and fell into the hands of a German general who had a habit of tattooing and painting on female bodies. The nightmare continued from then on, and Luo Xiaoman became a "black messenger" who delivered death notices in the rear.
