22-year-old drug dealer Chris (Emile Hirsch) is in debt and the loan shark is threatening to kill him. To save his life, he thought of the only way, which is to murder his mother Adele to earn a high insurance amount, and he joined forces with his father, stepmother and sister Dottie (Juno Temple) to divide the windfall. However, Chris was unwilling to do it himself, so he targeted professional killer Joe (Matthew McConaughey), but Joe only did business and not charity, and would not do it if he didn't raise enough money. When he was at a loss, Chris had to give his sister to Joe as a "deposit" temporarily.
