French director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre ("Innocence" and "Remembrance of Things Past") directed the film and wrote the script with Mona Fastvold ("Childhood Before the War" and "Sleepwalkers") and Brock Norman Brock ("The Guardian" and "Bronson"), and has started shooting in Nevada. Schoenaerts plays a violent criminal Roman Coleman, who gets the opportunity to participate in a rehabilitation program, including training wild wild horses. Stewart plays Coleman's cellmate, Sarandon plays a prison therapist, and Edo plays Coleman's daughter.
