After the end of World War II, Grace (Nicole Kidman) raised a pair of children alone on a small island in England, patiently waiting for her husband to return from the battlefield. The children were afraid of light and would get sick if exposed to light, so the curtains at home were drawn tightly all year round. In such a dark old house, Grace welcomed three new servants.
