The film mainly tells the story of a villager who discovered a rare leopard in a mountainous area during the warlord period of the Republic of China. In order to please an officer of the Fengtian warlord faction, a group of deserters wanted to capture the leopard and give it to the officer's concubine as a gift, so they captured the whole village and threatened them to reveal the leopard's nest. Wan Huashan, a peddler who returned to the village for the New Year, stayed at the "black" inn of the town's pretty widow Taohuakai because the mountain was closed due to heavy snow. By chance, he met a deserter who came to buy wine. He fought with the "money-seeking" widow Taohua while fighting with the deserter who bought wine. After he dealt with them, he learned that the villagers had been arrested. With the help of Taohua, who had turned over a new leaf, Wan Huashan secretly sneaked into the village and first rescued the smart and brave village girl Lily. Then the two of them worked together to devise a plan to lure the deserters into a trap, rescued all the captured villagers, and protected the leopard. Finally, Lily recognized that Wan Huashan was her first love Shanwazi, with whom she had been engaged as a child, and the lovers finally got married.
