Ruth (Felicity Jones) aspires to be a lawyer, and with her own efforts, she was admitted to Harvard Law School. In law school, Ruth suffered discrimination and pressure from all sides because of being a woman. Only her husband Martin (Armie Hammer) firmly supported his wife's choice, because he knew that Ruth was full of talent and sense of justice. Martin was diagnosed with cancer, and after recovering, he took his children to work in New York. In order to live with her family, Ruth asked the school to transfer to Columbia University to complete her studies, but was rejected. After that, Ruth left Harvard and became a law professor at Rutgers University, but even though she was so outstanding, no law firm was willing to hire her, just because she was a woman.
