Live By Night is based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane, a famous contemporary American writer. The story is set in the 1920s and 1930s and tells the story of a young man named Joe Coughlin, who comes from a police family and joins the gang, gets deeper and deeper into it, and ends up on a path of no return. The book is a sequel to Dennis Lehane's 2008 novel The Given Day, and is divided into three parts: the first part, "Boston", tells the story of Joe's initial entry into the gang, falling in love with the mistress of the gangster Abel White, and ending up in prison, becoming the confidant of the gangster Marceau in prison; the second part, "Ibo", tells the story of Joe's release from prison, and how he and Marceau take down Abel and gradually rise up in Tampa; the third part, "All the Violent Children", tells the story of Marceau and Joe falling out and a decisive battle. It is reported that Sienna Miller will play Emma, the mistress of the gangster boss in the film; Zoe Saldana will play Graciella Suarez, a woman Joe met when he started his own business in Tampa; Elle Fanning will play Loretta Figgis, an ambitious actress who unfortunately got into trouble.
