Gil (Owen Wilson) and his fiancée Inez (Rachel McAdams) come to Paris for vacation with his father-in-law and mother-in-law. He hopes to stay in Paris to finish his first novel, but Inez and her parents are strongly opposed. During a meal, Inez met her former classmates Paul and his wife, who were traveling together. Paul showed off everywhere and chattered with the tour guide (Carla Bruni), which disgusted Gil. At midnight, he walked alone on the streets of Paris, but was attracted by a passing carriage.
