"Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset", which are regarded as the criterion of love by fans, finally ushered in the third part "Before Midnight". In the first part, American youth Jesse (Ethan Hawke) met French girl Celine (Julie Delpy) on the train, and the two spent an unforgettable night in Vienna; 9 years later, in the second part, Jesse has become a writer, and his novel makes him and Celine meet again in Paris, and the two renew their relationship before sunset. Now another 9 years have passed, Jesse and Celine have lived together and have a pair of twin daughters, and have more insights into life and love. "Before Midnight" is a capture of their last day of vacation on a small island in the southern Peloponnese, Greece. Director Richard Linklater and the two leading actors are like going on a 9-year date with fans. Although the production span of the trilogy is as long as 18 years, the plot can almost be written on the back of a piece of paper. Movies are used to telling stories only through dialogues between people. The two protagonists walk in a quiet village or sit leisurely on a terrace or at a dining table, constantly discussing topics such as literature, love, life, and gender. However, unlike the previous two films, as they finally get together, the romance of love begins to be replaced by the daily trivialities of life and the practicality of getting along with each other, and quarrels and bickering follow. How to maintain love under the veil of "marriage"? The movie unfolds 18 years of love, and then slowly resolves those small grievances, presenting the most real and moving side of love.
