The story takes place in Northeast China in 1970. Yiku (played by He Bing), Sitian (played by Yang Gongru), Qitian (played by Cui Lin) and Qimiao (played by Zhou Yun) are four brothers and sisters. Their father Qi Shiyin (played by Li Youbin) is a music teacher in the school. The family lives in peace and happiness. However, one day, bad luck came. Qi Shiyin lost his job in an accident, and his wife also suffered from lung disease due to overwork. The whole family suddenly fell into hardship. In order to make a living, Qi Shiyin had to find another way out, but he died in a car accident unexpectedly. Not long after, his wife also passed away. The four children became lonely and helpless orphans and lived a life of dependence in their uncle's house. The eldest brother Yiku, who could no longer bear this kind of life, ran away from home with his younger brothers and sisters, and finally sent them to three families who could adopt them. The four brothers and sisters have since scattered all over the world.
