Anna Akana (Ant-Man, Mind Investigator) will star in the new film Go Back to China, directed by Chinese-American female director Ding Yizhen (Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong). Akana plays a girl who squanders her trust fund on parties and is forced by her father to go to China to work for the family toy business. During this journey, she gets the reality check she needs and rebuilds friendly relations with her estranged family. Ng Man-tat plays her father, Kelly Hu plays her mother, and Ling Chen plays her half-sister. Ding Yizhen said: "This is a personal experience about my Chinese family. I have been telling this story for a long time. I am very excited to work with these talented Asian actors to make this story come alive. It is a tough battle to make such a movie when there is still a lack of Asian American representation in Hollywood. I am very grateful for the opportunity to tell my story." Unbound Feet Productions, Sophia Shek, Frederick Thornton and other co-producers will start shooting in Hong Kong and Shenzhen in the spring.
