Twenty-five years after Hong Kong's return to China, the story revolves around a struggling family as a microcosm of society. Police officer Ye Guodong (played by Chan Shan Chung) was appointed as the flag-raiser for the July 1 return celebration, but he injured his arm before going on stage and was unable to perform his flag-raising duties. Coincidentally, his wife Sun Zhuolan (played by Natalie Tong) gave birth to their son Jialiang (played by Zhu Minhan) on the return day, making up for his inner regret.
