In the autumn of 1942, the most tragic war in human history broke out on a cold land. The Germans crossed the Volga River and arrived at Stalingrad on the other side to fortify and hold on. The Soviet Red Army and its opponents fought for the city. The two sides went back and forth, and the city turned into ruins and scorched earth. Thousands of people died. It looked like hell on earth. In a counterattack, the Soviet army suffered heavy casualties. Only the reconnaissance team led by Captain Gromov (Pyotr Fyodorov) arrived on the other side and occupied a dilapidated building. They found a 19-year-old girl Kaka (Mariya Smolnikova) in the building. Kaka's parents had already died in the war. Because of her attachment to the city and home where she grew up freely, the girl stuck to this place and numbly shuttled through the flames of war. In view of the extremely important location of the building, the extremely war-weary German officer Peter Kahn (Thomas Kretschmann) was ordered to recapture the stronghold. In this cruel and merciless Shura Field, the struggle between human nature and animal nature never ends...
