On the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunn (Ben Affleck) comes to his sister Margot's (Carrie Coon) bar, cursing and complaining about his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike), who used to love each other, and the hopeless marriage. When he returns home, he finds traces of violence in the living room, and his wife is missing.
