Gary Oldman, Amy Hammer, and Evangeline Lilly will star in the new thriller Dreamland, which is claimed to be the first theatrical film focusing on the international "opioid crisis". Filming has already started and will be shot in Montreal and Detroit. Nicholas Yarezki ("Arbitrage") directed and wrote the screenplay, with a three-way storyline: a drug smuggler arranges a fentanyl smuggling operation across the United States and Canada involving multiple groups; an architect recovering from OxyContin addiction discovers the truth behind her son's connection with the drug lord; a university professor struggles with the truth exposed about his employer, a pharmaceutical company with deep ties to the government trying to bring a "non-addictive" painkiller to market. Yarezki said the film wants to show that "the opioid abuse crisis has touched every corner of society, and the impact is devastating." The film is a Canadian-Belgian co-production and will be sold at the European Film Market in Berlin.
