After the outbreak of the Pacific War in 1941, the Jinpu Railway passing through Shandong became one of the most important strategic transportation lines for the Japanese army in mainland China. Around the Zaozhuang section of the Jinpu Railway, there was an active civilian anti-Japanese guerrilla team, which was mainly composed of several railway workers at the Zaozhuang Railway Station. The team leader was Ma Yuan, the foreman of the porters at the railway station. They worked at the railway station occupied and managed by the Japanese during the day, and came out to carry out secret activities at night. They used their familiarity with the railway line and their special skills of riding and driving trains to fight against a large number of well-equipped Japanese regular troops with a small guerrilla team, which had a very great impact. The local people gave this team a resounding name, called the Railway Flying Tigers.
