The dreamlike poetry of Isao Takahata's "A Fairy Tale of Time" (1991) is as if real people are coming to life. A female TV commercial director who is exhausted by her career and troubled by love is still unsure of where her life will go at the age of thirty. Accompanied by a straightforward friend, she takes a trip back to her hometown to visit her relatives. Her decadent parents and weird brother seem like strangers; the warm memories of childhood only linger in her grandmother's withered hands. The carefree childhood fades away with the sunset, and in the blue hour of the afterglow, the fragments of growth fly like a dream; she meets her free and unrestrained self again, regains her courage, and faces the future with the sun looming. Won the Special Jury Award of the Tsutaya Creator Program.
