A young Syrian refugee named Khaled has lost almost all of his family. Almost by chance, he stows away in Helsinki on a coal ship and seeks political asylum. Wikstrom is a traveling salesman who buys an unprofitable restaurant in a back street in Helsinki after winning a fortune at the poker tables. After the local authorities decide to deport Khaled to Aleppo, he decides to stay in the country illegally. Eventually, Wikstrom finds Khaled sleeping in the courtyard of his restaurant and hires him as a cleaner and dishwasher. Life briefly shows us its bright side, but fate soon intervenes.
