The 25-year-old youth Cesar (Eduardo Noriega) inherited the inheritance from his deceased parents so that he has no worries about food and clothing. His frequent changes of girlfriends have given him a reputation for being unruly among his friends. However, Cesar has recently been entangled by a woman named Noelia. In order to get rid of Noelia, Cesar turns to his best friend's girlfriend Sofia (Penélope Cruz) for help. The story switches to the prison, where Cesar, with a horrible face, is detained on suspicion of murder. Doctor Antonio is trying to trick him into telling what happened. It turns out that Noelia picked up Cesar outside Sofia's house, and a car accident occurred on the way, causing the latter to be disfigured... Cesar wakes up from his dream and has a date with Sofia in the park, but he soon finds out that the park date was just a dream. The doctors are powerless to do anything about Cesar's face, and soon he signs an agreement in a daze. The hospital's new equipment miraculously restores Cesar's appearance, but he finds that Sofia is actually a fictional character he has made up. Cesar cannot distinguish between dreams and reality, and decides to find the truth with Antonio... The film won the Tokyo Governor's Award at the 1998 Tokyo Film Festival and many other professional awards.
