The story takes place during the Tianqi period of the Ming Dynasty. Ruonan (played by Zhao Liying) loves Zhu Tianbao (played by Jin Qifan), but her father betrothed her to Zhu Tianbao's brother Zhu Tianxiang (played by Zhu Zixiao). Zhu Tianbao knows Ruonan's feelings for him, but he is helpless. In order to make Ruonan give up on him, Zhu Tianbao deliberately lingers in a brothel, but unexpectedly encounters a woman named Meng Xiaodie (played by Chen Yulin). After the two have various misunderstandings, Meng Xiaodie leaves in anger. Zhu Tianbao falls in love with the kind and noble Meng Xiaodie and follows her footsteps, but is harmed by a villain and falls off a cliff halfway. Fortunately, Zhu Tianbao is lucky and is rescued by Meng Xiaodie's father Meng Laoge (played by Wang Xi). He saves his life, but loses his memory. On the other side, Zhu Tianxiang poisoned the old prince in order to ascend the throne. After learning that Zhu Tianbao is dead, he sets up many strategies to lead him to the Forbidden City, trying to get rid of him as soon as possible.
