It is a TV series produced by MGM based on the 1994 hit movie "STARGATE"; it is led by Richard Dean Anderson, who is famous overseas for "MacGyver", and other actors include Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Don S. Davis, Teryl Rothery and Corin Nemec. The first season was broadcast in the United States in 1997 and was broadcast in more than 30 countries around the world. The response was enthusiastic. This year (2008) has entered the tenth season. Stargate is an ancient and advanced alien technology that uses wormholes that distort time and space to transmit matter across the universe in an instant. The Stargate project is code-named Area 52 and is commanded by Major General George Harmon, who is directly responsible to the President. The base is located below the North American Aerospace Defense Command in Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado, 28 floors underground. It was built during the Cold War to prevent nuclear war. There are currently 25 SG teams under it.
