In a quiet suburban community, the little-known painter David Andernach (Mads Mikkelsen) has an affair with his neighbor. One day, when he was fooling around, his daughter Leonie (Valeria Eisenbart) drowned in her own swimming pool. The incident directly led to the breakdown of his marriage with his wife Maya (Jessica Schwarz). David, who was sad and self-blaming, gave up on himself and once tried to commit suicide. The night after being pulled back from the brink of death by his friend Max (Tim Seyfi), David followed a mysterious and beautiful butterfly through a passage and unexpectedly returned to the moment when the accident happened 5 years ago, successfully saving his daughter's life. The tragic life seemed to have taken a turn for the better, but a series of chain events that followed made him fall into the vortex of fate and it was difficult to extricate himself...
