The film is adapted from the best-selling book "War Lovers" by British writer Louis de Berniers. It tells the true and touching story of a puppy named Koko traveling across Australia to find his former owner. The red dog in the film is played by a two-year-old Kelpie named Koko. This dog is said to be a descendant of the Collie and is currently widely distributed in Australia. In an iron mine in northwest Australia, there is a red dog named Red. After the American youth John (Josh Lucas) rescued it once, he made John his owner. John fell in love with the secretary of the mine (Rachael Taylor). But on the morning of the second day after the engagement, John hit and killed a kangaroo on the way to work, causing his motorcycle to overturn and he died on the spot.
