Introduction

Mr. Earnshaw, a country gentleman, brought back a gypsy child from his home and named him Heathcliff (Tom Hardy). His son Hindley (Burn Gorman) was jealous of his father's preference for Heathcliff and fooled and ridiculed him in every way. Mr. Earnshaw had no choice but to send Hindley, who always targeted his adopted son, to boarding school. His daughter Catherine (Charlotte Riley) had been childhood sweethearts with Heathcliff since childhood, and the two gradually developed a deep affection. After Mr. Earnshaw's death, Hindley returned to Wuthering Heights to inherit his father's business, demoted Heathcliff to a slave, and took revenge. Catherine was forced to marry Edgar (Andrew Lincoln) of Thrushcross Grange. Heathcliff, who was desperate, chose to leave his hometown. Three years later, he accumulated a huge fortune and came back to start crazy revenge. He set up a trap to seize Wuthering Heights, indirectly causing Hindley to die of drunkenness, and deceived Edgar's sister Isabella to elope with him, bringing shame to Edgar. All of this made Catherine, who still loved him deeply, suffer so much that she died in childbirth. The mentally disturbed Heathcliff continued this revenge to the next generation until he passed away holding Catherine's body. The film is adapted from the masterpiece of the same name, Wuthering Heights, by British writer Emily Bronte.
